How To Save On Your Electric Bill
Water heating is the second largest expense in your home, accounting for almost
1596 of your residential electric bill, using a water heater timer saves energy and your
money. What I will show you will not only save you money, but will also give your water
heater longer life. Water heaters turn on and off as the remperacure of the water rises
and falls. It does this all day and all night long, seven days a week. You can save $30 to
$50 a month on your electric bill. This may not seem like a lot of money; however it
could be used to take your family to the movies, dinner out, rent movies, or you could
save the money for a vacation and many other things. Here is what you do, go to your
local hardware store like: Ace Hardware, Home Depot. Ask them for an electric water
heater timer. You pull the timer button out and set the times that your water heater
will curn on and off during the day. I set mine to come on at 7am and to turn off at
12:00 noon. There are three of us in our home and this is enough hot water for the
whole day. This timer also has an overide button so if your schedule needs more hot
water, you simply push the button. pg.Lthen in an hour or so push it again to curn it off. Controlling your water heater saves
you money! You can also purchase a gas water heater timer. However, that is not my
experience, but it is possible.
In my case in oue month che unic nearly paid for itself. I did noc install it uncil
the LOch of the month, so this month ] will save closer to $50.00 mabe more. We
have a large 3 bedroom house, if | can save you can also. If you are handy you can
install the device yourself. Always remember safety firsc, curn the electricity off. Place
a note on Ithe electricity panel and lock it with a pad lock. Do this before working on
the electric circuit then use a tester to make sure that the electricity is in fact off. If
you are not so handy you can hire a handy man with electrical experience or an
electrician. You should not pay over $150.00 to install it and that includes parts and
labor.
If you will be installing the unit yourself you will need: The Intermatic electric
