Waiting to Exhale Film Review Synopsis Waiting to Exhale, a romance film produced in 1995, and adapted from the

novel written by Terry McMillian, portrays the life of four Black women: Bernie Savannah, Robin, and Gloria, as they encounter different love-triangles. The major plot, for instance, involves the protagonist, Bernie, as she contests a divorce from her husband, John, and struggle to obtain property for her children. Meanwhile, Savannah, a successful producer, tries to find love with ex-boyfriend, Kenneth; Robin attempts to find love with numerous men, becoming pregnant by Russell; and Gloria, a beauty salon owner, seeks to find love with Melvin, and struggles with her son Tyree, as he departs for Spain to study the saxophone. Additionally, Waiting to Exhale resembles the life of author, Terry McMillian, because it illustrates her own love difficulties. Obviously, the novel intended to represent the struggle, which Black women face, to find a loyal mate.. Primarily, all of the women are holding their breath, until they find a committed relationship. Likewise, the movie consists of an all-Black cast that increasingly represents African-American women. And also, the film represents the urban landscape committed to the Black community by focusing directly on the Black experience, beyond other racial boarders, for example, when James, Bernadines later boyfriend, says to her, my wife is white, but as viewers, we never encounter a white woman at all.
