My e-portfolio contains artifacts and assessments that show my progress of becoming a teacher throughout my years, before and during,

the Elementary Education Program at Dixie State University. Dixie State Universitys, Department of Education, D.E.S.E.R.T. Model, provides standards for future educators who are going through the Education Program. The D. E.S.E.R.T. Model helps to develop and shape each prospective teacher, through his or her years of practicing to become a competent, caring, and qualified educator. During my time in the Elementary Education Program, there have been many assignments, which show my growth throughout the program. During my 2nd semester in the Elementary Education Program, in ELED 3900, I created a differentiated lesson plan. This lesson plan, which accommodated five students with different learning levels, shows that I realize each student learns differently. It shows I can modify a lesson to teach to all of my students, not only the mainstream, average learners. This lesson shows that I am away of different cultures, language backgrounds, higher level learners, as well as lower level learners. It shows I can teach to the range of students, giving each student the optimal learning experience (DM1). During my second semester I put together a Science Unit Plan, on the Ocean Habitat. I believe my unit plan shows my knowledge of not only the ocean habitat, but also my knowledge that it is important to teach to all learning styles. I had an interactive SmartBoard presentation, which showed different ocean animals in their habitats and how they were able to survive within their habitat. I had the students draw, and create the ocean habitats, as well as sculpt different tide pool animals. (DM2).

During my 3rd semester I was able to teach two lessons, for two subject matter areas that I feel in adequate teaching in. These two assignments are on my e-portfolio, because it shows the range of my knowledge, and planning, in researching a subject I am going to teach. The first artifact is a movie I put together about the Statue of Liberty. I not only gathered information, but I also made sure that I gathered pictures for the students to see the process of building The Statue of Liberty. I related the dimensions of the Statue of Liberty to items a child would understand, so their knowledge could be formed on their level of understanding. The Science lesson I taught was on the Life Cycle of Frogs. I had multiple activities to help all children learn how a frog grows from a tadpole to an adult frog. I not only had two-dimensional visuals, but I also brought in a frog, tadpoles, and frog eggs (water beads, which are the same size and consistency of frog eggs). (DM3) During my 1st semester I created a Classroom Management Plan to help me learn what procedures I want to have in my classroom, and learn how I am going to set those procedures up This plan shows that I am capable of creating a safe, fun learning environment for my students, by allowing them to be active participants in their behavior plan. I have also included my SIOP Assessment Project, which shows I know how to break down the results of my students learning, and see what they have fully comprehended, as well as where their areas of weakness are. This project shows I am capable of reflecting on my students learning, as well as my teaching. This helps me see if the mistakes are mine, which will help me grow from my taching weaknesses. (DM4) I have also included my teacher notebook assessment reflection, from my 2nd semester, as it shows that I am able to reflect upon the behavior of my students, and how it can affects their learning. (DM5)

Last, I have a link to my classroom website, which was created in a prerequisite technology class. I have included this as it shows I have a way for parents to communicate and know what is going on in the classroom, and with their childs learning. I will have an area in which I will have a weekly newsletter, as well as spelling words, vocabulary, and links to the homework. (DM6). This e-portfolio shows that I am a competent, caring, and qualified teacher by attaching items that I have enjoyed teaching and learning about throughout my years in the Elementary Education Program. The lessons, assessments, assignments, and activities all show that I am able to teach students in an effective manner. I have learned so much in these past years how to become an effective teacher and throughout my experiences in the classroom I was able to put some of these skills that were learned to use. I am so thankful for the knowledge that all my mentor teachers, supervisors, and professors were able to share with me and I look forward to getting more experience in the classroom as an educator and reflecting back on the assignments and items that I have in my e-portfolio.
