TASK 1 (P5) Safe working practices and ways to reduce the risks Titration of an unknown Potassium Manganate (KMnO4)

solution with Fe2+ solution of known concentration Procedure 1) 2) 3) 4) 5) 6) 7) 8) Weigh and transfer 7.7-7.8g of (NH4)2FeSO4 6H2O into 250ml beaker. Add about 100ml water while stirring with a glass rod to dissolve. Transfer the Fe2+ solution into a 250ml volumetric flask. Add water up to the 250ml mark while turning the volumetric flask upside down. Rinse and fill the pipette with Fe2+ solution prepared. Transfer the Fe2+ solution into a 250.0ml conical flask and add 5cm3 of 1M H2SO4. Rinse and fill the burette with the unknown KMnO4 solution. Titrate with unknown KMnO4 solution in the burette, until a permanent pink colour is obtained. Table of results st 1 titration 2nd titration 3rd titration Initial burette 0.00 0.00 0.00 reading (cm3) Final burette 27.40 27.00 27.00 3 reading (cm ) Titre (cm3) 27.40 27.00 27.00 Average titre =27+27/2 = 27
