CONSTITUTION Article I Name The name of this organization shall be Student Veteran Organization at Grossmont College, (SVO).

. Article II Purpose Our purpose is to foster camaraderie between the members of this organization, while reaching out to veterans, and their families in academic endeavors through peer mentorship, in addition to pursuing expanded veterans benefits, and finally, emphasizing the importance of volunteer work in our community. Article III Membership Membership in the organization shall be open regularly enrolled Grossmont College students. This organization will not have members who do not meet the above criteria. Eligibility for membership or appointed or elected student officer positions in this campus recognized chapter may not be limited to, nor shall any policy established on the basis of race, religion, national origin, ethnicity, color, age, gender, marital status, citizenship, sexual orientation, or disability. Article IV Executive Officers Section 1 The Executive Officers of this organization shall be: A. President: Duties - The President shall oversee all operational activities of the SVO. Preside and enforce parliamentary procedures at SVO meetings. Represent the SVO at official functions or appoint representatives to act on behalf of the SVO. B. Vice President: Duties The Vice President shall assume the duties and responsibilities of the President during his or her absence. Advise the President on matters pertaining to the SVO. Track the status of committees and inform the President of their progress. The Vice President shall also fulfill the role of webmaster of the organization, appointing other officers as secondary and tertiary roles.

C. Secretary: Duties- The Secretary shall publish meeting agendas and minutes for each meeting, as well as maintain and update the membership roster and e-mail. The secretary shall also update the President and Vice President on matters pertaining to the SVO. D. Treasurer: Duties The Treasurer shall maintain all financial accounts belonging to the SVO. Track and record all fiduciary transactions of the SVO. Maintain custody, accuracy, and security of SVO financial records. The Treasurer shall also be responsible for fundraising, organizing fundraising events and maintaining the successful financial operation of the SVO organization. E. Director of Services: Duties- The Director of Services shall oversee and participate in the recruitment of new members into the SVO, as well as organize on/off campus activities for the SVO. The Director of Services shall also be responsible for updating and running the Grossmont SVO social media outlets, to include but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, website, etc. F. Campus Activity Coordinator/Inter-Club Councilman: Duties- The Campus Activity Coordinator/Inter-club Councilman shall plan and organize events and activities, under the guidance of the Director of Services, with the goal of creating good morale and fellowship among SVO members. Keep a schedule of school events that may pertain to or be of interest to SVO members, as well as assist in planning and coordination of official functions such as the Annual Veterans Week. Attending the Inter-Club Council meetings hosted by the ASGC, Inc are mandatory. G. Community Activity Coordinator: Duties- The Community Activities Coordinator shall plan and coordinate, under the guidance of the Director of Services, community service events for the SVO including planning events and activities in conjunction with other community service organizations. They shall also plan at least two community service activities per semester in conjunction with Art IV. Sect 1 E-F, to promote and organize events, and make liaison with other area SVOs for mutually beneficial events.

Section 2 Officer eligibility shall be outlined as follows: A. Must be able to attend organizational meetings held every First and Third Tuesday of the month located in the ASGC, Inc Club Room, Building 60, Room 60-206 at 3:45pm B. Must be an honorably discharged veteran or active duty member of of an Armed Service of the United States of America Exceptions may be determined on a case by case basis through the review of the current board and/or the Faculty Advisor. C.To be eligible for a Senior Officer position, President /Vice-President, candidates must serve on the board as a Junior Officer for no less than one semester. D. Full time students, 6.5 units or more at Grossmont College or Cuyamaca College. E. Maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 or higher. F. Must be able to fulfill office requirements for entire term elected. A term to be defined as the beginning of the Spring Semester until the end of the Fall Semester Section 3 Executive Officers shall be elected the last meeting of each Spring semester by a majority vote of the members present, or through electronic forums, and shall take office the first day of the Fall semester. Section 4 Should a vacancy occur at any office level, it shall be filled at the next regular meeting, a person shall be nominated by SVO members and approved by a majority vote. Section 5-- Officers can be removed from office by completion of their term or by unanimous decision by the standing officers. Article V Subcommittees The organization shall establish subcommittees to fulfill the different needs of the day to day and special events operations of the organization. Subcommittees shall be fulfilled by any member of the organization, to be overseen by the Executive Officers. Section 1- Services Committee Shall assist the Director of Services and Activity Coordinators, in the execution of activities.

Section 2 - Marketing Committee Shall assist the Director of Services and Activity Coordinators, in the execution of marketing events for the SVO through the execution of posters and shall also assist in maintaining and updating media outlets.

Article VI Meetings Section 1 Member meetings shall be held every third Tuesday of the month, while Officer meetings shall be the First Tuesday of the month. Meetings shall be located in the ASGC, Inc Club Room, Building 60, Room 60-206 at 3:45pm. Section 2 Special meetings may be requested by any member, but must first contact an officer of the club. An e-mail must be sent to all members a minimum of two days prior to the meeting. Section 3 A quorum for any regular or special meetings shall consist of a minimum of 3 members, 3 Officers and the faculty advisor. Section 4. --- Meetings will follow the parliamentary guidance of the current edition of Roberts Rules of Order Newly Revised. Article VII Sources of Income Sources of income shall consist of donations from SVO members, donations from outside organizations, and product sales. Article VIII Student Conduct Student conduct must conform to the District and College rules and regulations. If a student code of conduct violation occurs while a student is involved with a club activity, the club advisor may recommend removal from the club as discipline for one or more of the violations listed in the Student Discipline Procedures Manual. The discipline steps will be: Two weeks prior to a regular scheduled meeting, the advisor sends by postal mail or hand delivers a letter to the student requesting his/her attendance to discuss violation(s). A removal recommendation must have a 2/3 vote of attending membership can only be the advisors approval. The club for removal may take place regardless of whether the member to be removed is in attendance at the meeting where the vote is called.

Any violation of the student code of conduct that results in the suspension or expulsion of a student from Grossmont College will result in expulsion of the offending member from the club without. Readmission to the club may be considered upon reenrollment of the student upon the approval of the advisor Article IX This Constitution May Be Amended: Majority vote by club members present at regular or special meetings and endorsement by 2 Executive Officers of the SVO of Grossmont College. This constitution has been accepted by 7 SVO Officers and 11 club members as of February, 17th 2010. This constitution has been accepted by 5 SVO Officers and 0 club members as of November, 28th 2012.
