1. Difference between Tolerance and Allowance:


Allowance: is the minimum clearance space (or maximum) Allowance between two parts Tolerance: is the difference between the permitted minimum and maximum sizes of a part. Tolerance within parts

2. Feature of size (FOS) and Non FOS:


Feature of size (FOS)- one cylindrical or spherical surface, or a set of two opposed elements or opposed parallel surfaces, associated with a size dimension; an axis, median plane, or center point can be derived from a feature of size. a. Every feature of size contains one or more features b. FOS can be internal or external Feature of size dimension- a dimension that is associated with a feature of size Non-feature of size dimension- a dimension that is not associated with a feature of size Actual local size- the value of any individual distance at any cross section of a FOS Actual mating envelope (AME)- perfect geometric counterpart of a FOS

3. Datums & its types Datum feature with size and Datum feature without size Types of Dimensions: 1. Nominal 2. Basic 3. Reference Actual Local dimension Actual mating envelope External feature( Chamfer & Fillet) Internal feature( Hole)
