There are two kinds of consonant sound in English: voiced and voiceless

All vowel sounds are voiced.

- voiced: you can feel vibration. In Spanish we call them ´ sonoras `.

- voiceless or unvoiced: you can feel no vibration. In Spanish we call them ´ sordas `.

/ d / Voiced sounds:/ b /-/ v /-/ ð / -/ d /- / g /- / z / -/ /- / /- / m / - / n / - / /- / l /- / r /

/ t / Voiceless or unvoiced sounds: / p / - / f / - / / - / t / - / s / - / / - / / - / k /

Regular verbs ( -ed ) : One of the common pronunciation errors is the regular past - ed endings.
Students tend to pronounce everything / id / . You should aim at avoiding this error rather than
worrying about the tiny difference between / t / and / d /. The difference between / t / and / d /
is minimal. We usually only hear it if the words are linked to a following vowel sound

-ed = / t / : -ed is pronounced / t / after unvoiced sounds: typed, packed

/ t / : after a voiceless sound : walked
-ed = / d / : -ed is pronounced / d / after voiced sounds : arrived, changed
/ d / : after a voiced sound : opened
-ed = / id / : -ed is pronounced / id / after / d / or / t / sounds: landed, rented
/ id / : after a / t / or / d / sound : waited
