I have known Rio since the beginning of her sophomore year here at Virginia Wesleyan, when she started working in the Admission office as a Student Ambassador. Early on, Rio distinguished herself as a diligent, conscientious employee and a polite and affable young lady. Rios best traits are her determination and her appreciation for the whole college experience. Rio is involved in everything, from her internship with Entercom Communications, to editor of the colleges award winning school newspaper the Marlin Chronicle, to public relations chair for her sorority, Sigma Sigma Sigma. She truly is the sponge that soaks everything up. Recently, Rio has been the most visible student ambassador, serving as the student speaker for large campus sponsored event, such as Admitted Student Day. The comfort in which she addresses audiences of over 400 strong, shows a maturity beyond her years. Respected by the entire college community, peers, faculty as well as staff, Rio will truly be hard to replace. Her compassion and love for life is infectious. She readily expresses her love for learning and a determination to meet whatever challenge is in front of her. Clearly, Rio is a young lady of the highest character. Her drive to succeed, long with her friendly nature, will serve her well as she pursues her goals. I am certain that she will continue to thrive in whatever environment she lands.
