Acrylic Pen Project

Name:___________________________________ Design brief: Putting actual pen to paper can have significant benefits for brain development. Recent research has found that when students learn how to write by hand, they also increase their brain activity and improve their fine motor skills.

A pen company has asked you to design and create your own pen using plastic. When creating this pen you will need to think about the look, texture, and how comforable it will be for someone to write with it. Once you hace designed the pen you will need to then look at packaging and how you will sell the product.
What constraints (limits) must we work on in this project in relation to Cost? Materials? Time? Size and proportion? Sustainability? Selling the product? Skills ? Constraints- must have in the design

Considerations- things t think of when designing the pen:

Create 4 different pen designs

Pick

ONE design and draw in detail with annotations

Selecting Tools And Equipment

Use this sheet to select the tools and equipment that you are going to use to make a project of your own. I am making a _____________________________. This is the equipment I am going to be using. Tool How it is going to be used

Packaging
Create packaging for the pen so that you will be able to sell it. On the packaging think of the following 1. Name 2. Information about the pen 3. Slogan jingle to sell your pen 4. Picture to help with advertising.

Evaluate your work

1. Evaluate your product. Write 2 sentence to describe the a. look b. function c. safety d. colour e. material f. style g. features 2. Give a detailed description of each step you took, with photos or a simple video to demonstrate your understanding of the process, techniques that are important while making this product. 3. Write a paragraph reflecting on how well you worked in the work room. PMI (positive, minus, ideas for improving). What did you do well in terms of safety, listening, watching demonstrations, and cleaning up, extra duties completed? What do you think you did not do so well at / what ideas have you got to improve? 4. What problems did you have? How could you avoid those problems? What would you do differently if you made the car again? 5. List the things that could be changed to the end product, and explain why. 6. Include 3 photos of the end product.

Assessment on Acrylic Pen Project

STILL IN TRAINING Designing Has developed own design ideas and displayed them DESIGNER Has development of at least three design ideas in response to the brief, using a variety of drawing, written and modelling methods to display ideas. The planning for production of a designed product that includes a logical sequence of the major steps of production, and a list and calculation of required materials and tools. use of a range of tools and equipment, including some that are more complex, with teacher support, as necessary, on safety Has kept a detailed log book of production reflection on modifications made during production including why and how Has tested the performance of their product and used questions in book to evaluate product in detail with justification of recommendations for improvements to products made by others. ADVANCE DESIGNER Detailed development of drawings , from a brief, of a range of design alternatives, With annotated pictures in colour. A Logical sequencing and planning of production stages, and listing of required materials, equipment, and tools. Designs that shows consideration of the quality, aesthetic, functionality, nutritional or performance requirements of the design brief with teacher guidance on safety, implementation of a range of production and finishing/presentation processes, selecting and using tools, equipment and machines with some degree of accuracy with teacher prompting, modification of production methods (if needed) and justification of changes made and recorded in detail in log book. Has tested their product to evaluate it in terms of safety, function and suitability for the intended purpose With identification, through discussion, of changes that could be made to their processes, materials that would lead to an improved outcome
