BENDING THE SHAFT OF INTRAVENOUS CANULA FOR CANNULATION OF VEINS AT DIFFICULT LOCATIONS Cannulation of veins at sites like just proximal to medial and lateral tuberosities of tibia can be difficult as the tuberosities can sometimes interfere with the length of intravenous cannula. We suggest use of intravenous cannula after bending the shaft of canula such that the distal part of intravenous cannula projects above the tuberosity while intravenous cannulation is being done. This way the tuberosity does not interfere with the distal part of the intravenous cannula. This method is also useful at sites where the surface is concave as in dorsal part of forearm in thin individuals with extreme muscle wasting. However extreme bending of the shaft can make the cannulation difficult as increasing difficulty in withdrawing the metallic stillate out of seath of cannula.
