Pelikan, Jaroslav. The Law and the Prophets Fulfilled, Pages 87-98 in Whose Bible Is It?

A short history of the scriptures. New York: Penguin, 2005. In The Law and the Prophets Fulfilled, it is obvious that Jaroslav Pelikan believes the Old Testament, known to them as the Tanakh, discusses the Law and the Prophets and the New Testament gives an account of their fulfillment. An interesting point he makes is that Christians not only refer to the Tanakh as Jewish Scripture but also place it as the opening piece of the Christian Bible. He supports this point by giving an account of Marcions views of the God of the Old Testament and the God of the New Testament and how the church discarded his teachings but accepted the concept of one Bible with two Testaments. He shows us this information in order to show how early Christians viewed the New Testament as a commentary on the Old Testament and a documentary of the life of the Messiah, Jesus Christ. A target audience is Christians anyone studying to discover how we got the Bible which we have today.
