February 4, 2008 Malley, Brian. Interpretation and Tradition, Pages 73-126 in How the BIBLE Works.

An Anthropological Study of Evangelical Biblicism. Lanham, MD: AltaMira Press, 2004 In Interpretation and Tradition its obvious that Brian Malley believes that while evangelicals believe they interpret the Bible and their critics believe that the evangelicals interpret the Bible, but when they use the term interpret they are meaning two different things. A significant point that Malley makes is that people often claim to believe what the Bible says when it says that, all things are possible for God, but then say that not all things are possible for God. He supports this by giving us a script of what was discussed in a bible class and also quotes from R.C. Sprouls video series One Holy Passion (The Attributes of God) and gives us an instance when Sproul dealt with people questioning him on the omnipotence of God. Malley walks us through how evangelicals interpret the Bible in order to show that evangelicals interpretations are sometimes derived from the Bible and are sometimes just attributed to the Bible. A target audience is anyone that is looking to understand what it means when an evangelical says that they interpret the Bible a certain way.
