1960-1965 John Glenn On February 20th, 1962 John Glenn became the first person to go in space and orbit

the earth. The spaceship he was on was called the Friendship 7. He circled the planet three times. His journey lasted a total of 4 hours, 55 minutes, and 23 seconds. This trip made Glenn the fifth human to go in the space, as well as the third American in space. This picture shows Glenn in his astronaut suit.

Valentina Tereshkova In 1963, Valentina Tereshkova went into space. She orbited the Earth 48 times. Tereshkova experienced nausea and discomfort for most of the flight. She spent almost three days in space and took lots of photos for people to understand space better. She was not an American, and was a part of the Soviet Union. This picture shows Tereshkova in her space suit.

J.F.K Assassination On November 22, 1963, President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. It was discovered that Lee Harvey Oswald killed the president. The murder weapon was a 6.5 52 mm Italian Carcano M91/38 bolt-action rifle. Before Oswald could go to court, Jack Ruby killed him. Two other people were wounded; these people were the governor of Texas Connally along with James Tague. This picture shows the newspaper article about the assassination.

G. I. Joe Debut In 1964, G. I. Joe dolls had their debut. In the early 1960s boys would not play with dolls. In result, no one called them dolls; instead they were called action figures. The different kinds of action figures were the marines, sailors, soldiers and pilots. G. I. Joe dolls have evolved over the many years. This picture shows the G. I. Joe action figures.

Anti-War Protests In 1965, anti-war protests began. One began at the University of Michigan. The protest was organized by the professors at the college. A total of 2,500

people participated in the protest. Not only was the protest in Michigan, but it was in 35 other colleges in the country. This picture shows an example of how people protested in Michigan.
