This document provides tips for using function keys in Excel on a Mac. It explains that by default, Mac users must press Fn plus a function key like F8. However, they can change a system preference to use function keys without Fn by going to System Preferences, Keyboard, and checking a box. It notes that while this enables standard function key use, only F5 and Alt+F11 work fully with Excel 2011 on a Mac.

Using the Function Keys in Mac Mac users cannot simply press, for example, the F8 function key all by itself. Instead, one must use the keyboard combination Fn + F8. But users can change the Mac system preference to use all function keys without having to press the Fn key: 1. Go to System Preferences 2. > Keyboard 3. > select the Keyboard tab and check the box to: Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys NB: All the function keys do not work with Excel 2011, with the exception of F5, which opens the Go To dialog box, and Alt + F11 that opens the VBA Editor
