Fung Ping Shan Library 2005 User Survey: Responses to User Comments

Your Comments Our Responses

1. Collections/Electronic Four users suggested the library to buy more books and
Resources (5 comments) journals.

Our Chinese Bibliographer will take your comments into

consideration when making acquisitions decisions.

- One user suggested Chinese Journal Net (中國期刊網) to

include pre-1994 issues.

The publisher said that they are working on it.

2. Environment/Infrastructure One user suggested that the library catalogue should have the
(5 comments) capability for searching journal articles.

The library system has not been designed to provide this

capability. Users may however take advantage of the library’s
electronic resources to search for journals articles and access to
their full text.

One user suggested providing Q-code as a Chinese inputting

method.

The library will ask the Systems Department to look into this.

One user commented that reading places are not adequate.

Another user opined that seats on 6/F are not comfortable and
too crowded.

The library removed the temporary office set up for the re-
labeling project in November, which in turn provided space
for setting up 6 double-side study carrels. In the meantime,
we will also try to strike a good balance between providing
more seats and a comfortable reading environment.

One user commented that the air-conditioning on 5/F is too

cold.

The library is sharing the Main Library’s air-conditioning

system. We are now working with the Estates Office to look
into the Main Library system to make improvements.
3. Services (2 comments) Two users suggested setting up a service counter either on 5/F
or 6/F.

Staffing at Main Library public services departments is now

very stretched. While we recognize that setting up a counter
either on 5/F or 6/F may enhance library services, this is not a
viable option until our staffing situation has improved. Users
are requested to use the intercom installed on 5/F and 6/F to
talk to our Reference Librarian for help.
