Coloured tissued paper (light warm colours: pink, yellow, orange and red; contrasting green or blue) Dry leaf PVA glue watered down 50:50 in a plastic container Vaseline Balloon Plastic container like a round margarine pot or large cut yoghurt pot Thin tie wire Tea light String Bamboo stick
1. Place an inflated balloon upside down in a plastic pot (to stop it from rolling around!). 2. Cover the balloon in a thin layer of Vaseline. 3. Tear up strips of tissue paper start with pale colours first. 4. Pass a strip through the glue mix (dont soak it as it will fall apart). 5. Cover the balloon completely with layers of paper. 6. On the second layer add a dried leaf 7. On the third layer you might like to add small strips of a darker contrasting colour 8. Build up the layers until the balloon is covered with at least 5 layers thick of paper (you might have to dry the balloon after about 3 layers and continue the next day).
10. Pop the balloon 11. Cut around the top of your lantern to make it neat 12. Thread through a thin piece of tie wire to make a loop for your stick. 13. Melt a bit of wax on the bottom to stick a tea light in place.
