The yellow discolouration seen here is indicative of overheating, and acetic acid salt decomposition. The same applies to the anhydrous form obtained through irradiation. Dehydrate in small, thinly spread batches, otherwise the product degrades (trapped, superheated steam?) and turns yellow. Not too sure, but I think the final step is supposed to be a dry distillation of the anhydrous sodium acetate and sodium bisulfate?
