0epending on 2arious aspe-ts of your produ-tion wor6flow there are a -ouple of things that should be 6ept in mind when shooting for -olor grading in post< Hust be-ause youIre shooting LO= doesnIt mean you should undere8pose your images by three stops< "e see people substituting LO= profiles for ight1ision all the time so please use a light meter or the histogram on your -amera to properly e8pose your images using (S(3ISO and lens aperture< 0onIt shoot LO= when your -amera outputs -rappy JAbit -ompressed files .0SLRs/< Hust donIt< =ranted, the before and after -olor grading -omparisons will be more impressi2e when you start with LO= footage but thatIs li6e saying good )a6eAUp artists should only wor6 in the old fol6s home to show off their s6ills< o offense< K/ Spea6ing of 0SLRs<<< ne2er apply the LUT if you ha2enIt first -arefully denoised and dithered your footage< This goes for all -onsumer grade 2ideo -ameras that output highly -ompressed files< The LUTs may do some aggressi2e -olor shifting depending on your sour-e footage so prepare it -arefully or your image may fall apart< Hust li6e white balan-e and e8posure, lens artifa-ts and physi-al filters -an ha2e a maFor impa-t on the quality of your images and may require manual -orre-tion before the LUTs are applied< #or e8ample you may be dealing with a shot that, due to the quality and position of the light, is washed out and desaturated beyond a2erage LO= standards< In su-h a -ase you -ould either reintrodu-e some -ontrast and saturation manually before applying the preset or simply apply two LUTs on top of ea-h other and adFust the strength of the se-ond -opy to mat-h your desired results< Remember to be -reati2e and ha2e some fun with with these presets< There is no right or wrong L Fust trust your eyes>
