Introduction to ASIC Design

Instructor: MUHAMMAD ALI RAZA ANJUM

FORMAT The lab reports should contain the following: 1. OBJECTIVE: A stated objective (i.e. a summary of what you expect to learn from the experiment). 2. CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION: A brief, general description of what the circuit does. A block diagram would be appropriate here. Also, give your reasons for designing your circuit the way you did. This section should be a couple of paragraphs. 3. CIRCUIT DESIGN: Detailed information about the circuit design. This should include a circuit schematic if needed, function truth tables, and how you minimized the logic equations. When we get to sequential circuits, you should also have state diagrams and state transition tables, and how you derived the system logic equations. For the labs that do not require any design, this section should contain your analysis of the circuit, logic equations, etc. 4. TEST & TEST DATA: This includes the data required by the experiment and any additional data needed to fully test the circuit. As part of your design, you should plan how you are going to verify that your circuit works. This will normally take the form of a set of test inputs and the expected results which are compared with actual circuit operation. Make sure you explain fully the testing procedure used in lab and explain the results obtained 5. CONCLUSION: This should be what you learned from the lab. In the case that you did not get you circuit to work, this section could contain an explanation of why it did not operate properly and how the design could be corrected GRADING Your lab reports will be grades as follows. Section 1 Section 2 Section 3 Section 4 Section 5 Format & style 2 points 5 points 10 points 10 points 5 points 3 points Total 35 points The points awarded for each section will range from zero to the maximum listed depending on how complete and correct each section is. There are 3 points which are given for report format and style. The 3 points will be awarded on the following basis. One point for general appearance, one point for organization and one point for correct language usage. Your report should be typewritten and must be neat and easy to read. Lab reports will be due on the next lab. Late reports will be accepted, but will be marked LATE at a penalty of 10% a day.
