Algebra I

Principles for succeeding in this class:

1. Ask for what you need! Make sure you have everything you need from me to succeed. 2. Come prepared. If you want to do well you have to be organized and know your stuff. If you are not prepared you cannot give your best effort. Mediocre work should not, and will not, be rewarded. 3. Be respectful. If you are respectful of those around you, you will go far. You are expected to be respectful of everyone. I believe . . . You deserve to be encouraged, and you deserve to be challenged. I have a responsibility to teach you as much as possible. I want this class to help you understand mathematics better. Algebra is used everywhere. I promise it is important to learn! It is reasonable to expect you to think! I am not doing you any favors if everything is handed directly to you. You need to learn to be proactive. Problem solving and critical thinking are two important skills I want to help you develop. You should be treated fairly by both your fellow students and me. You deserve access to individual help. I am here and willing to help. I want you to succeed in this class!

As a member of this class . . . You are responsible for seeing me about make-up work. You are expected to bring ALL of your materials to class every day. (Book, folder, paper, pencil, calculator, handbook, etc) No excuses! You are expected to do your best and be prepared for class. You are expected to pay attention and be focused on what is happening in class. You should never lay your head on the desk or be working on other items. You are expected to turn in your assignments on time. Otherwise, you will report to ZAP. Dont ever tell me I dont know. We will work through it together to find the answer. All school rules must be followed. (No water bottles, food, etc.) All bags, purses, books, hats and other items that are not related to what we are doing in class must be on the floor or under your desk. Your cell phone must be turned off and out of sight at all times. Alert -This is my pet peeve! There are no exceptions. I keep mine away and I expect you to do the same. Its a matter of staying focused. Please do not pack up unless you are instructed to do so. You may miss something important! I will give you time at the end. Also, stay in your seat until the bell rings.
