Reasons for Admission

Childs mother died five years ago of influenza since then child has been living in Uxbridge with her
maternal grandmother. Now, the grandmother has broken up her home and has gone to live with her
daughter and there is no room for Helen, so Mr. DeWitt went to miss Woods, of Children’s Friend
Society, and asked that she find a boarding place for child. In the meantime Helen is to stay in the home.
Mr. DeWitt has married a second time, he married a women whom he had known only a month, and
doesn’t get along with her any too well. Helen can’t live at home as her stepmother won’t have her. Mr.
Dewitt’s mother lives in Holland and she would take Helen and care for her if there was any way child
could be sent to her. The Children’s Friend Society are trying to find someone with whom they can send
the child to Holland.
June 10, 1923- Mr. DeWitt came for Helen and took her home. Man told his wife he would give her one
more chance, she is to stay home and care for child, or he is to go to Holland to his mother, and take
Helen with him.
