PR professionals communicate information that enables an organizations publics to understand its policies. PR involves many activities to achieve this goal including press agentry, promotion, publicity, public affairs, research, graphics, advertising, marketing and merchandising. Ultimately, public relations is a form of marketing communication that organizations use to build mutually beneficial relationships with key publics.

Designed to introduce students to the public relations field. Covers topics from the nature of the work done by public relations practitioners to the description and use of the tools involved. Also, the various functions of public relations are examined including the overall process of research, planning and decision making, action and communication, and evaluation. Prerequisite: Course requires Reading Placement Test Score-Category One (3 lecture hours)
Recommended for students who enjoy shaping public opinion. Students should have an interest in creating action with their communication skills while building strong organizational leadership skills.
