IRs & Diplomacy July 9, 2013

After the regime collapse in 1991, Russian government basically depends its development both technology and economic with the West but to be friend the world great superpower like USA, not always resulted in positive gain. From time to time, Russian leaders observed that influences of the West onto Russia became bigger and bigger that not even on normal living attitude of Russian people but economic power of the West such as export of the West product to Russia and technology in civil development as well as military modernization. Then we can see the movement of the best-west relation to Eurasian meaning Russian leader and government start to expand network and relationship at all level both politic, economic and military with the East such as China, Japan and India. In doing so, Russian government want to achieve at least three things. Firstly, stop depending on the West and start playing the Eurasian card to show the world that Russia not the puppet of the West and Russia is the regional great power with full sovereignty. Secondly, to be a superpower in the West while USAs standing on the top is not smart game and more dangerous but to be the superpower of the East geographically and politically will be a smart choice and get more good image. Thirdly, East is the emerging and rising region with nearly half of world total population it is great opportunity of market expansion that Russia can go to gain the stake and finally, Russian leaders want to balance the power influence between the West and the East playing the two card always the good choice of statesman in foreign policy.
