It shows a true story of friendship and camaraderie, and helps to show kids how to make the often difficult, but right, choice when sticking up for a friend. Smith Jr. It encapsulates words into photography and can be used to show the process of illustration and how to use pictures instead of words to tell a story. Red Flag: I feel this book deals with mature subject matter because the man lives in a housing unit just for men. Mini-lessons: *simile *focus *inference

It shows the way he is treated because of his love for words and is identifiable for students with a wide range of vocabulary. 12. Sidman, Joyce. Red Sings from Treetops a year in colors Scholastic NYC ISBN: 978-0-545-28978-8 Non-fiction K-12 Joyce Sidman takes the reader through different seasons and uses phenomenal word choice to share the beauty of the world around us. Mini Lessons: *Setting *Personification *Simile
