A sleep diary measures various metrics related to sleep including wake-up time, bedtime, time spent in bed, time to fall asleep, number of awakenings, time spent awake during awakenings, total time slept, sleep efficiency, use of sleeping pills or alcohol, feelings of being rested after sleep, and sleep quality rating. The diary is meant to track these metrics before, during, and after cognitive behavioral therapy to measure progress in treating insomnia or sleep problems.
