The students are required to use their roles to help them effectively negotiate four points (out of eight) they want to report whilst maintaining respect and harmony within the group. The roles of each student are described in the following step. Step 5 The Negotiator negotiates with other participants on which four facts should be reported. His/her job is to give and take (win win approach) to keep everyone happy. The Conflict Manager intervenes when conflict arises during the negotiation, e.g. reminds a participant to stay assertive instead of becoming bossy/angry, to avoid putdown remarks, to include others etc. The Time Rooster keeps an eye on time, reminds others of how much time they have got left to finish the task, and tracks the groups progress. Step 7 The Reporters inform the class about the four facts/points their group found interesting and worth knowing followed by the Explainers who elaborate on each point and who explain to the class why their group chose the respective points. Other students listen to the presentation, make notes and ask related questions. Step 8 When the Reporters and Explainers from each group finished their presentation, the teacher gives students the copies of the rest of the handouts (for subsequent tasks and a future reference) so that all students end up owning topics from all the groups.
