CARRIAGE OF CEMENT CLINKER

BEFORE LOADING 1. Confirm hatchcover W/T integrity by hose test 2. Wash all holds and dry completely. Cover and tape bilge wells with burlap . (Before commencement of loading, physically check each hold for dryness again in case condensation caused due to ships sweat). 3. Make canvas chutes ( 4 nos.) to fit over the hold vents [ for 2 holds] and ready an equal number of 200 liter drums to receive the cargo dust from them during loading. 4. Put the accommodation aircon on recirculation. 5. Place filter meshes at E/R intake blowers. 6. Cover other vulnerable equipment and machinery on deck with plastic ( example : hatch hydraulic rams etc). 7. Close all vents and doors to accommodation and deck stores. LOADING 1. Load only through feeder holes on hatchcovers and avoid loading during precipitation. 2. Personnel on deck must wear goggles and dust filter masks. 3. Shift the canvas chutes and drums to hatch vents prior loading. Transfer filled drums back into hold through booby hatch. 4. From time to time, employ ships crew to sweep off any cargo dust collecting on deck, in case it wets due to rain. ENROUTE 1. After loading is complete, sweep and blow with compressed air ,all exposed areas on deck and superstructure before wash-down . 2. Monitor the dew point of the holds and advise office in case a decision to ventilate is required. AFTER DISCHARGE 1. Before closing hatch, blow down the open hatchcover from atop, using a pole ( check port permission first) 2. Blow down the hatch coamings , channel ,drain pipe, vents etc from main deck 3. Inside hold, using long poles, air blow to as much height as possible . In the event that after discharge, some cargo is found to be trapped behind any frame , then a ladder would be required to place on the hopper for dislodging it. 4. Remove to deck all collected residue. 5. Wash the hold using the Tobey Gun ( or similar equipment in use) ,keeping a good trim and a list to one side for efficient operation of the Wilden Pump 6. In the event that for some reason, ships bilge system is to be used, have a 10cm high steel barrier fabricated for placing around the bilge well 7. Flush each bilge well for 15~30 minutes at end.
