Let us take example . Input to QPSK modulator is-11000110 The binary data stream is split into the inphase and quadrature-phase components. These are then separately modulated onto two orthogonal basis functions. The odd-numbered bits have been assigned to the in-phase component and the even-numbered bits to the quadrature component .

Q-Phase 1 0 1 0 (1 1 0 0 0 1 1 0 ) Then one channel (the one "in phase") is multiplied by a cosine, while the other channel (in "quadrature") is multiplied by a sine. This way there is a phase of 90 between them.

This results in a two-dimensional signal space with unit basis functions. The binary data is often conveyed with the following signals
