Selektion

Selection
 In Auschwitz, all Jews
arriving at the camp
were involved in a
selection process
where those fit for
work were divided up
from those who were
unfit for work. Those
able for work were
transported to the
main camp, where
they normally worked
or starved to death.
Those unfit for work
were gassed
immediately.
Arrival
 Here is the
unloading ramp at
Auschwitz. People
are being unloaded
and the Nazi
officers are
dividing them up.
There in the
background is the
main entrance to
Auschwitz.
Memory
 The survivors of
the Holocaust
never forget when
they saw the main
entrance of
Auschwitz. That
image is forever
burned into there
minds.
 When they arrived at the camp, they
where automatically divided up. The
two groups that they split them up in
to was the fit and unfit. The fit group
was saved to either do manual labor
or be medical experiments. The unfit
group was killed immediately. When
they were split from there families
they rarely ever saw them again.
Torn Apart
 There is know
telling on how
many families
where torn apart
and lost during
those hectic years
in the
concentration
camps.
Herded
 After arriving and
being divided up
into groups they
were either sent
straight to the gas
chambers or sent
to the barracks
where they would
work and
eventually killed.
Escape
 Those who escaped
from the Nazis
would hide out in
the forest. There
were several who
escaped this way
but some were
caught and killed.
Groups
 These women were the ones that
made it on the first selection process.
Before they were sent to there
barracks there heads were shaved
and they were striped of other
possessions. Later on they were put
to work. Very few of them survived
during this period.
