The Basic Stormwater Management in Virginia class is a two-day introduction to stormwater management offered by Virginia Department of Environmental Quality

(DEQ) staff in collaboration with the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) emphasizing specific requirements for Virginia Stormwater Management Programs (VSMPs). Successful completion of the class is the first step in obtaining a state certificate of competence in the area of stormwater management. The class will cover broad topics such as: an introduction to stormwater management, legal authorities for VSMPs, the Virginia Stormwater Management Program and; operating a local VSMP

Specific topics to be explored in the class include the Virginia Stormwater Management Act and Regulations, the Stormwater Handbook, the Stormwater BMP Clearinghouse, the E-Permitting System and the roles and responsibilities of a VSMP Administrator, Plan Reviewer and Inspector. The class is targeted to local government staff and others responsible for the administration and implementation of local VSMP programs currently under development that will become effective July 2014. DEQ staff will offer a total of six training sessions state-wide beginning in June 2013. Trainings scheduled will take place at: the Town of Christiansburg Fire Station (110 Depot St. 24073) on June 4 and 5 the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS) in Gloucester Point on June 10 and 11 the Woodrow Wilson Rehabilitation Center in Fishersville (243 Woodrow Wilson Ave. 22939) on June 18 and 19 the Spotsylvania County School Board Building (8020 River Stone Dr. 22407) on June 24 and 25 the Samuels Public Library in Front Royal (330 E. Criser Rd. 22630) on July 9 and June 10 the Hampton Roads Planning District Commission in Chesapeake (723 Woodlake Dr. 23320) on July 30 and 31

For those unable to attend any of the above trainings, please note that DEQ plans to offer additional stormwater management training in the fall and winter of 2013 and spring of 2014.
