Welcome newcomers to Tarleton State University! With the fall semester well under way, the stress of school and work leaves everyone needing places to grab a good meal, buy a new outfit or just hang out with friends. The Newcomers Guide to Stephenville is the answer to all of these questions. Assembled by a summer media writing class, the Newcomers Guide offers reviews of ten restaurants, 8 stores and 8 entertainment venues in the Stephenville area as well as coupons from some of the businesses. City Limits is hands-down the place to be most nights. It is the best music venue around, complete with a raised wooden dance floor, and also has pool tables, plenty of televisions and a karaoke stage. Every night is something different so youll never get bored. Monday nights City Limits holds a beer pong tournament (for you freshmen over 21) and Tuesdays are no-cover twostepping. Thursday night is college night where you can get your bump and grind on to some great DJ tunes. Friday and Saturday nights, City Limits hosts some of the best Texas Country singers, including Brandon Rhyder, Josh Abbott, and Randy Rogers. With City Limits just outside the actual city limits, there is no excuse to ever be bored in Stephenville. Karen Ramming 1907 E. WASHINGTON ST. STEPHENVILLE (254)968-5222 HOURS: MON. Fuzzys Taco Shop is a great place to hang out with your friends while enjoying a casual Mexican meal. It is one of the few restaurants in Stephenville with outside or patio dining. They also offer free wi-fi, which allows the multi-tasking student to work on homework while eating a great meal. Try the chicken enchiladas, shredded chicken quesadilla or a fajita salad. For the 21 and older crowd they have excellent on-the-rocks margaritas and the largest selection of beer on tap in town. UIlani Kaufman

Although small, Cinema 6 offers all the services of a larger city theatre: drinks, snacks and current movies. Its six screens feature both 2D and 3D movies at college budget prices. On Wednesdays movies are $3.25 with a student ID, and $5 without. For major motion picture events, Cinema 6 opens its doors for midnight showings. Located in the Bosque River Center, it is close to several restaurants, making a great night out easy to plan. Kaitlyn Cummings

Everyone loves a great dinner every once in a while, and eating at Fiddle Creek will definitely leave you satisfied. Fiddle Creek Steakhouse is a great place to celebrate a special occasion or just enjoy a finer dining experience. For students who live on a restricted budget and have little spending money, Fiddle Creek provides amazing dishes that will justify the occasional indulgence. My personal favorite is the steak and shrimp; even though it is on the pricey side. Eating at the restaurant is a treat in itself, but sharing the experience with close friends even better. Tacquera Los Arcos food is always fresh and made to order right in front of you. Several different styles of burritos, quesadillas, tacos, tortas, marinated pork al pastor, Mexican barbeque, carne asada, menudo, chorizo and much more are offered. Los Arcos carries a variety of homemade desserts like flan, chocoflan, tres leches cake and others. Many traditional Mexican waters, American colas, and Mexican-import colas are available. A large menu board gives all the selections and provides details about how the meal is prepared. All menu items are available for take-out. Los Arcos recently applied for a liquor license so you may soon be able to enjoy a cold beer with your meal. My personal favorites are the super burrito and the beef fajita tacos with cilantro and fresh limes. Peacocks is a quaint, hole-in-the-wall diner on the South Loop. It has been recently remodeled and features pictures of the restaurant over the years. Because it is open 24/7, it is a terrific place for students to get great food at any hour of the night. It is known mostly for its amazing breakfast and wonderful service. The staff will always greet you and treat you very well. On average, dinner will cost about $10-15 for an ample serving. My advice is to try the corn nuggets with ranch dressing; it will make you come back every time. -Kelly Wolff

When nothing else will bring peace of mind but shopping, the Not Too Shabby Consignment store is a great place to start. Stephenville is a town with many eye- catching stores and avid shoppers. On my first visit, I was pleasantly surprised: Not Too Shabby sells many cute, previously owned items, often things that have never been worn, and all at reasonable prices. Girls like to shop, and finding quality, name- brand, new items at a discount price is always fabulous.
