Space Human Factors Engineering

Space Human Factors Engineering (SHFE) conducts research and technology development to enhance crew performance in space flight and planetary surface exploration. Products include design concepts and requirements for hardware, software, and operations that reduce mismatches with human capabilities and resulting errors and lost time. The scope of SHFE includes human cognitive and physical capabilities and multi-agent teams. Research and technology efforts in this area focus on increasing the likelihood of mission success and improving efficiency by modifying the crew environment, task characteristics, schedules, training, and equipment to accommodate human strengths and limitations.
