County Attorney Andrew Thomas announced today that a direct criminal complaint has
been filed against two students at Tempe’s Corona Del Sol High School in connection
with a bogus bomb threat that forced the school to cancel classes on March 20, 2009.

According to the probable cause statement filed by Tempe Police Laurin Rae Godson
(DOB10/1/91), and Lauren Marie Tamburrelli (DOB 10/27/90) are responsible for an
anonymous letter that was delivered to the school and an anonymous call to the school
claiming a bomb would go off at the school on March 20.

Because the threat came the afternoon of March 19, there was not enough time to
thoroughly investigate the threat and the school had to be closed.

The probable cause statement also alleges that Godson wanted school to be cancelled
because she had a court date on a shoplifting charge on March 20 and if she received two
more absences she would not graduate. Godson wanted to save her last absence for
‘senior ditch day.’

Both students were arrested on March 26, 2009. Five days later, a criminal complaint was
filed accusing the two of knowingly committing a hoax which was likely to impart the
false impression that an act of terrorism would take place. They are also accused of False
Reporting to a Law Enforcement Agency; and Interference or Disruption of an Education
Institution.

Thomas stated, “This incident needlessly shut down a school, panicked students, and
forced the hard working officers of the Tempe Police Department to divert valuable
resources. Tempe Police recommended these charges and we concur.”
