This will get them engaged. Lesson Development I will give the students simple maps of the classroom, and they will be required to explore the classroom with their map in order to find small prizes. This will help them to grasp map concepts. I will ask the students how they found their prizes, and ask them questions such as which direction did you turn? or How did you know the prize was where it was? This will be an opportunity for the student to show what they know and see if they know any key terms.

In order to have a deeper understanding of maps, the students will have to practice more. They will make maps of the whole school, of the classroom, and their house. They will have to use the correct words to describe their surroundings as well. I will make sure the maps are large print. I will make sure everywhere in the school the students walk to are ADA approved. I will have the students in small groups working, so there is more time for each student to understand and let me help them as a whole. Lesson Evaluation Students will be able to create an accurate map of the classroom and the school. They will have met the objectives. They will also be able to use the correct words to describe their surroundings.
