Lesson I Assessments Informal Assessment. The below chart was written on chart paper.

. I will write in the below metaphors and explain them to the students as we read the first couple of pages of the book. After I have shown the students what they are supposed to be doing, students will write metaphors on post it notes while I read then post them at the end. The notes that students posted on it served as in informal assessment for lesson I. Uptown I see. Uptown is a caterpillar Taste Hear Uptown is jazz Touch/Feel Uptown is summer basketball (I will explain how this can be classified as something we feel/touch because basketballs feel sort of rough under your fingers, a little sticky sometimes if they are new. Also how the author specifies that it is summer. So we can imagine how summer feels hot, sticky, sunny, and maybe humid.) Smell

Lesson II Assessments Informal Assessment. For lesson II, I will give pairs of students note cards with metaphors written on them. They will need to write what the metaphor meant and illustrate it. Below are the cards and metaphors that they students will be given.

Lesson III Assessments Informal Assessment Below is the graphic organizer template that the students will be given to complete about their home. I will collect them at the end of the lesson to review before handing them back the next day.

Lesson IV Assessments Informal Assessment

I will be checking in with students during the lesson making sure they are in fact writing metaphors about their home, making sure that they have at least 5 of them and that they make sense. I will also collect their writing notebooks at the end of the lesson to read the poems and give them feedback. Lesson V Assessments Below is the poetry book checklist that the students will be given to help them effectively complete their final project. A final copy of the Home poem will be included within the final project which is how it will ultimately be assessed.

My Poetry Book Checklist I included in my poetry book:

Name: ________________________

1-2 cinquain poems 1-2 haiku poems 1-2 acrostic poems 1-2 concrete poems My alliteration My home poem

I used the editing checklist with a partner and made sure I got the ok from a teacher before I wrote my final draft.

I wrote neatly in my best handwriting. I titled all my poems.

3

I created a table of contents. It has my poem names and what page you can find them on. I neatly numbered my pages. I carefully illustrated in color, each of my poems. I created colorful borders so there is no empty white space on my page. I made a cover page. I nearly wrote my title and my name and added lots of color. I have a glossary with at least 7 terms correctly defined. They are in alphabetical order.

The final rubric below correlates with the above checklist. If the student effectively completes everything on the checklist, they will get all 4s (the top score) on the rubric.
