Student sometimes comes to class prepared and shares meaningful thoughts on the text. 2 Student only sometimes uses new vocabulary to express his/herself in class discussion. 1 Student never (or very rarely) uses new vocabulary to express his/herself in class discussion. It seems that the student is unprepared because he/she usually has nothing to say.
