Sociology- The study of society, social structures, interactions within a society etc. Agency- Refers to an individuals actions. (function theory- working hard and doing best to achieve high results) In control of your own life. Socialization- The process through which people learn their place in society Hidden curriculum- Everything outside the content-based curriculum, i.e. classroom rules, school ethos, everything that impacts. Un-spoken rules, guidelines of society Main points of lecture/readingFunction theory- Schools have a function and an outcome- i.e. people go there to learn and achieve goals in order to go out into the world and get a job etc. and they have an equal opportunity (if you work hard anyone can achieve anything) Conflict theory- education system only targets middle and upper class so therefore it supports inequality Symbolic interaction- no wrong or right answer, some people have conflict and some have function theory- depends on who is in a position of power. What it means for you personally Main points of reading- Education is changing due to globalization but is much more complex then we perceive
