Kosciw, J. G., Greytak, E. A., Diaz, E. M., and Bartkiewicz, M. J. (2010). The 2011 National School Climate Survey: The experiences of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth in our nations schools. New York: GLSEN. 2010: 160, ERIC. Web. 12 March 2013.

Every year GLSEN, Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network create a survey that examines LGBT students and their experiences in school, particularly a negative school climate. Factors such as harassment, homophobic remarks, missing classes, and the safety of those students are all examined. All the possible negative effects on LGBT students academic achievement are considered and factored into the result of the survey. It was shocking to see the percentage of students that were harassed and mistreated by their peers due to their sexuality. This source proves my point that students sexuality effects the classroom setting as well as their academic progress. This source is biased, it only looks at the negatives. Though there may not be very many positives there may still be a few.

Warick, Ian, Chase Elaine, Aggleton, Peter. Homophobia, Sexual Orientation and Schools: a Review and Implications for Action. 2004. 10-15. Web. 12 March 2013. This source is similar to the previous source in the way that it is set up and what it focuses on. However this article focuses a lot on the safety of the students. There is a lot of bullying associated with being an LGBT student. This article shows how prevalent the bullying is and the effects it has on students progress in school. According to the article students result to violence if they feel they are being wrongly accused of being gay or even they are correctly being accused of being gay. To me the authors do not take one side. The authors are not biased they simply point out the issue as it stands. The article ties into the point I want to make about the effects on heterosexual students of having a LGBT student present in the classroom.

Engstrom, Catherine. Mchugh, Sedlacek. Attitudes of Heterosexual Students Towards Their Gay Male and Lesbian Peers. Journal of College Development. 1997 Dec. 563-73. Web. 12 March 2013.

This source shows the other side of the spectrum. Instead looking at the issue from the view of

homosexual this article examines the opinion and attitude of heterosexuals toward their gay peers. This article provides the other argument to my topic. There are two sides to every story and unfortunately one side is victimized and the other is always the accused. The author helps reveal the other side, which I would also like to do, to not seem biased. I want my readers to know all the ends and outs of this topic.

Iconis, Rosemary. Reducing Homophobia Within The College Community. New York. May 2010. 67-9. 16 March 2013 This article could be the very thing that teachers and students need. This article talks about the reason why there is a negative attitude towards LGBT students. The article provides solutions to minimize the issue. This article is not very long but it gets to the point. The author does a good job of providing her position on the issue. She argues that to challenge the issue it is the job of the faculty to provide a better climate for LGBT students. This article will help with concluding my inquiry by providing possible solutions. They will be left up to my readers as to what will help tackle the problem for students.

Dawkins, Milton R. Jr. Do Attitudes Towards Lesbians and Gay Men Differ Among Heterosexual Colleagues Student-Athletes and Student Non-Athletes?2012. 1-39. 16 March 2013 This article is a very in depth article. The examines everything from the history of the treatment of LGBT students to sports involving LGBT athletes. This article adds another equation to the problem. The author took it to another level, he examines the LGBT students involved in sports. This could help expand on my inquiry a bit. I could not only focus on the classroom setting in school but the athletics area of school as well.
