Nigeria Passes Law on Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities Nancy Hess Disability Issues/PSY 364
A new bill has just been passed in the House of Representatives in Africa that it is
a crime to discriminate against any person or persons with any disabilities. The sponsor
handling the advocacy has stated, that no man or woman should suffer discrimination at the
well as any other benefit offered down by the disabled individuals employment.
The sad thing about this bill, is it was not in effect until recently, and to top it off the
House was doing their best to oppose this bill, which was finally overturned in the advocates
favor. They were only trying to fight for what those individuals deserved, and now they have
it. The bill also includes that every public office be equip to accommodate those with
The bill sponsored by Abike Dabiri-Erewa seeks to Ensure Full Integration of Nigerians with Disability into the Society and Eliminate All Forms of Discrimination Against Them. The bill prescribes punishment for offenders ranging from prison term or payment of fines as the case may be.
