2 Law Passed in Nigeria against Discrimination

A new bill has just been passed in the House of Representatives in Africa that it is

a crime to discriminate against any person or persons with any disabilities. The sponsor

handling the advocacy has stated, that no man or woman should suffer discrimination at the

hands of their employers, pertaining to advancement, training, promotion, and or transfer, as

well as any other benefit offered down by the disabled individuals employment.

The sad thing about this bill, is it was not in effect until recently, and to top it off the

House was doing their best to oppose this bill, which was finally overturned in the advocates

favor. They were only trying to fight for what those individuals deserved, and now they have

it. The bill also includes that every public office be equip to accommodate those with

disabilities that may require wheelchair, or any other special assistance.

The bill sponsored by Abike Dabiri-Erewa seeks to Ensure Full Integration of Nigerians with Disability into the Society and Eliminate All Forms of Discrimination Against Them. The bill prescribes punishment for offenders ranging from prison term or payment of fines as the case may be.
