Band and Genre Voicethread LP Background 1.

Pass out a vocabulary list and have students look up some of the key terms they will need: music genres, labels, producer, single, album, and any other related music terms. 2. Have students look at the example presentation posted on Voicethread. 3. Point out to students that the presentation does three things: a. Explains the musical genre of the band b. Describes how the band is part of that genre c. Explains why the person likes the band. 4. Write on the board these three criteria and tell students their presentation will be graded on how well they cover these aspects. Also point out features of the speaking presentation, such as language use. Tell students that in addition to content, they will be also graded on how well the use correct grammar and vocabulary. Apply 5. Have students research their band choice and the genre. They should take notes on the band. They can use Wikipedia for a starting place to gather information. Then have them compile a script. 6. They also need to find a photo of the band, perhaps using google images. 7. Have students go to Voicethread and upload their image. 8. Next have them open their script in a word document and record their comment to add to their picture. 9. Then have them share their links to the Voicethread presentation on the course blog or wiki. 10. If you have a large class, it may be important to assign students certain Voicethreads to comment on. Explain that part of the grade is determined by the comments on others blogs. In a smaller class, then it may be necessary to have students comment on every Voicethread. Presentation & Feedback 11. Have students present their Voicethread presentation to the class. 12. Provide feedback to students on their language use, organization and content.
