The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn: Literary Circles Chapters 20-34

For the next section of this novel, well be participating in literary circles. Lit circles are a way for us to engage more deeply with small parts of text, and put them together to create a whole picture of these chapters. You will be responsible for reading the chapters assigned to your group, and you will be responsible for reading the summaries of the other chapters. Each group will present on their group of chapters in a way that will provide understanding for all class members. You will work in groups of five for this activity. Your first task is to choose roles from the list below. Each group member must take a role, and each role may only be used once: Director: This person writes questions that will lead to meaningful discussion of the book. The questions should not have "yes" or "no" answers but look deeper into the characters and plot. The other group members will discuss the questions. If there are questions posed by the class during the presentation, the director will answer these questions. Passage Interpreter: This person summarizes your assigned chapters using a T4. The Interpreter needs to make sure that there is understanding for the group about the chapters that you are assigned. This person is responsible for clearing up any unfamiliar vocabulary. Record Keeper: This person keeps track of who participates and does their assigned job. You will have a form to track discussion. You are responsible for turning this in at the end of each hour. Author: This person creates a handout to give to the class about your assigned chapters. You can create a worksheet, a quiz, a graphic organizer, or a fill-in Cornell notes sheet. This handout will be a major part of your presentation. Presenter: This person presents to the class your group findings. They need to make sure that there is understanding about the chapters that you are assigned and that the class comprehends what is going on. Your group is responsible for turning in the following things: - Discussion Questions sheet and rationale (Director) - Group Records (Record Keeper) - Blank Handout and Answer Key (Author) - T4 and Summary (Interpreter) - Presentation Notes (Presenter)
