Eric has been employed at Metro Health Hospital in a variety of different positions for over 4 years. I had the privilege of interviewing, hiring and having Eric report directly to me while I managed the clinical area of Surgery Prep & Recovery and the Post Anesthesia Care Unit. During this time, he functioned in the role of a Patient Care Technician (Nurses Aide) caring for surgical patients on the pre and postoperative side of a 10 Room Surgical Suite. Eric worked as a high school student with one of the PCTs in our department and developed a definite interest in the health care field. The PCT he worked with encouraged Eric to volunteer in our department and shortly after went on to school to become a Certified Nurses Aide. Once that was achieved, Eric applied for a position at Metro. One of the main reasons that I made the decision to hire him was for his enthusiasm and the positive energy he exhibited. He was always determined to provide the best care to our patients in his role and was able to quickly grasp the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in his role. The quality of work he displayed was excellent; one could always rest assured that Eric would accomplish the job he set out to do and would do so in a very efficient manner. Eric was continually striving to learn new duties especially when allowed the opportunity to work in the PACU with RNs in the more intense, high acuity environment. When he was working, I never worried as a nursing leader that customer service would be spared. The staff in the department enjoyed working with Eric, as he is a team player which fosters a strong, collaborative working environment. I am confident that the characteristics I mentioned above will be what will aid Eric in becoming a role model in world of professional nursing! His demonstrated work ethic is a true example of how patient care and customer service should be delivered to strive for excellent outcomes.
