HUMAN NEEDS VS. ENDANGERED ANIMALS Sharifah Norsukhairin Bt. Syed Abdul Mutalib, Nur Nadia Azreen Bt.

Tengah Introduction Rapid expansion of human population has created irreparable damages. Construction of homes, buildings, roads, timber harvesting endangering wild animals by destroying their natural habitat. Overexploitation / unrestricted hunting vastly decrease in their number. Animal testing to execute further research on drugs.

First Argument Habitat loss The most important reason for animal extinction. Clearing of tropical forests for timber resources, extraction of mineral resources, etc. has destroyed the natural habitats of native animals. Second Argument Animal Hunting Poaching and wildlife trade in animals and their body-parts. Tiger bones and rhinoceros horns used in traditional medicines in China. Elephants are hunted for their ivory tusks, animals in Africa are killed for bush meat trade whereas several animals are captured to be kept as pet. Third Argument Animal Testing There is no law that requires companies to test their personal care and household products on animals before selling them to consumers. Opposing Viewpoint Protecting species and habitat means putting restrictions on human activities. Some people believe that human needs should take priority over the needs of other species. Illegal wildlife trade high profit margins high prices paid for rare species.

Conclusion Important to save the endangered animals. Legal private farming for profit has contributed in restoring the situation.

It is our moral duty to ensure a safe life to all the creatures, otherwise the coming generation may not be able to know about the lives which will become extinct.
