Essay Guidelines

Your Name

For each of the units 1-4, you are going to write an essay on a topic selected by me. Here are the guidelines for the essays: 1) The essay must be typed in Microsoft Word or equivalent, 12 point Times New Roman font, 1 inch margins on ALL sides. The essay should be double-spaced. Your name should appear in a header along with the phrase Unit _ Essay (i.e. for unit 1, it would appear as Unit 1 Essay). Look at the top of this page to see how your name and essay title should appear. 2) At a minimum your essay must be 500 words (the word counts CAN NOT include your name, essay title or other headings on the first page of the essay). Microsoft Word has a word counting feature. It is found under the Review tab. 3) The essay assignment will contain a question or maybe more than one question for you to answer. In writing the essay, I am looking for you to provide an analytic and interpretative composition that deals with the subject I provided from your point of view. 4) Support your responses with factual information that is appropriately referenced (use any accepted style of referencing such as MLA, APA, etc). DONT PLAGERIZE. I will be using a web site called Turn It In.Com to check for originality of your essays. This web site tells me how much of the paper is original and how much you copied from another source. 5) The essay response should be organized. Write your response using a logical sequence of information (don't ramble and talk about 4 different ideas in one paragraph). Break the response into paragraph form. Indent the first line of your paragraphs. 6) Use appropriate and correct grammar and punctuation. 7) Responses will be graded based on the following scoring rubric (25 total points possible): a) Formatting b) Length c) Organization d) Grammar/punctuation e) Content/quality of response f) Supporting information provided 3 points 3 points 3 points 4 points 8 points 4 points
