WHAT IS A PREPOSITION?
Links nouns, pronouns and phrases to other words in a sentence. The word or phrase that the preposition introduces is called the object of the preposition

A preposition usually indicates the temporal, spatial or logical relation ship of its object to the rest of the sentence.

WHAT IS PREPOSITIONAL PHRASE?

A prepositional phrase will begin with a preposition and end with a noun, pronoun, or clause , the object of the preposition.
Examples

At home At = preposition; home = noun .

In time In = preposition; time = noun . With me With = preposition; me = pronoun.

USED AS ADJECTIVES AND ADVERBS

A prepositional phrase that modifies a noun or pronoun is functioning as an adjective phrase .
*tell what kind, how many, or which one.*

A prepositional phrase that modifies a verb, adjective, or another adverb is functioning as an adverb phrase.
*how, when, where, how often, and to what extent.*

EXAMPLES
1. The whale with the unusual markings is our favorite. (adjective phrase; tells which whale) 2. The whales in the water park show performed with ease. (adverb phrase; tells how)
