RELEVANT EXPERIENCE Highland High School, Salt Lake City School District October 2012-March 2013 Student Teacher Teach 10th-and 12th-grade Language Arts to 3 classes of 38-40 ethnically diverse students, including one honors class. Teach English Language Development III class of 6 students ranging from 9 th-12th-grade whose first languages range from Korean to Amharic. Use SRA/McGraw-Hill Corrective Reading Direct Instruction Program. Planned and taught a 6-week unit on the Holocaust, integrating synthesis writing, history, poetry, primary source documents, the survivor memoir All But My Life by Gerda Weissmann Klein, and modern-day ethics in accordance with the CCSS. Facilitated literature circles that have individual and group roles, which allow for student centered learning, leadership and participation, and the increase of collective knowledge and deeper understanding of texts. Planned and taught a unit on World War I, integrating argumentative writing, history, poetry, primary source documents, and perspective using the novel All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque. Created, currently maintaining, and utilizing a class blog for students to access handouts, assignments, and information, in order to facilitate student responsibility, improve performance and grades, and increase success using Blogger software.
