SUGAR MOUNTAIN FESTIVAL

To And Fro presents the second annual Sugar Mountain Festival (SMF). Conveniently placed in the heart of Melbournes city center, Sugar Mountain will spread across 4 days, including a main Festival day. SMF will boast a collective gathering of creative events that will take place within The Forum Theatre, Federation Square and ACMI. The Forum Theatre will host the Festival day, and will feature both international and Australian artists who will showcase both diverse music and visual arts, focusing on the natural meeting points between. The main festival day will be centered on live music, as well as a curatorial focus on leaders of installation art, new media, digital sculptures, cinemateques, and various audience interactives. Sugar Mountain Festival will be a cross-pollination of the artistic and musical offerings from Melbourne and abroad. Federation Square will host a multiple of events, using ACMI, Federation Square Atrium, Fracture Gallery* and No Vacancy Gallery. SMF will utilise these multi-faceted spaces with concurrent exhibitions that showcase the highlighted artists, both local and international visual artists. Additionally Sugar Mountain 2012 will incorporate an educational and developmental aspect. Filmmaker Vincent Moon will facilitate a night of tutorial, intimately discussing his works and conducting a Q & A. The inclusion of an interactive element is a very exciting addition; celebrated visual artists will conduct a workshop for both older and younger generations. Sugar Mountain is a place for creativity to be absorbed and celebrated. Above all, the creative minds from To and Fro are determined to create an environment that is convivial and interactive with performances and spaces that will remain with the audience long after the festival nale.

2011 SUGAR MOUNTAIN REVIEWS

Faster Louder A day marked by drumming, art-y music and a strong visual aspect, the inaugural Sugar Mountain is a success. We can only hope that it continues to be supported: the organisers are bringing new, intriguing acts from overseas, supporting our best local bands and mixing them with some of coolest visual artists from here and abroad to create a unique environment Spook Mag Online Well, let us welcome the new wave; Sugar Mountain Festival is not about making money or delivering a predictable line-up. Its different. Its special. Its the one your mum told you would happen when you least expected it. Sugar Mountain is a festival that will not only showcase the musically talented, but also the visually artistic. Australia hasnt been offered a festival such as this before Australian Infront Damien Aistrope Over the weekend I had the opportunity to y down to Melbourne and cover the art/music festival Sugar Mountain for Australian Infront. I can honestly say that it was the best festival I have been to. The mix of amazing bands, the gallery lled with high prole artists, the live visuals (insane), the venue incredible. Most denitely a festival to keep an eye on in future years and certainly a benchmark for other promoters
