6. evaluation:

(How will you know whether or not you have achieved your short-term specific goals? What did the childrens responses to this lesson tell you about whether your goals were met?

Informally assess the children based on their comprehension of the story Asses children on their ability to follow directions

7. post-lesson reflection:

What would you change about this lesson and why would those changes improve it?

Something that I need to work on, and be aware of, is my body positioning. When I was reading I was sitting cross-legged and as a result directed my attention towards one side of the room. I also would have changed the way I started my lesson. I just jumped in to it without much of an introduction. I would change next time by starting with more to grasp the attention of the students. I also could have explained the end of the book more. Described how it was a birds house.

How did your organization and materials affect the success of the lesson?

I think that the organization I had a great affect on the success of my lesson. I had all the seeds glued to the papers a few days in advance. The book was checked out from the library, and I knew exactly what I wanted to do. Because of this I was comfortable running the lesson and the students followed my instruction.

What were some challenges with this lesson? What surprised you?

A challenge that I faced during the lesson was dealing with how the children were going to react to everything. They are a great group of kids but they need a lot of instruction. I planned for this in my lesson with my written transitions and the expectations I had for the students. I was surprised, however, with how well they behaved. There was a point during the art part of my lesson where there was silence, and I didnt know whether that was a good thing or a bad thing. This was something that was a big surprise to me.

additional comments?

I was very pleased with my lesson. This one I was more comfortable with than the last because it was my own lesson that I planned and created rather than a routine lesson that my cooperating teacher created. The outcome turned out great.
