Professional Standards
(a) Plans Curriculum and Instruction. Wrote curriculum for Computer Applications Course Continually update courses to reflect new technologies and to better meet students' needs. Reviews results of assessments to identify areas of difficulty for students. Modify my teaching strategies to improve understanding, as needed. Developed numerous writing activities that support a Writing Across the Curiculum initiative. Includes online discussion boards, journaling and reflective essays. Conduct informal assessments at the beginning of a new unit to evaluation existing skill level and understanding Continuing to document all lesson plans in ATLAS curriculum mapping tool. Currently working with a community member with Robotics course. Scheduled a field trip to Milford Hospital to investigate robotics in medicine. Always looking for new technology tools to integrate into lesson plans. This year I have integrated Weebley, JunoED and Neropod along with other iPad apps. I review IEPs with Special Education staff and look for strategies that can help individual students. For example I had a very low functioning student who we found out could benefit from the use of picture cards to represent concepts in my Photography and Video Production course. I have seen an increase in the number of ELL students in my classroom. I work closely with our ELL teacher to provide the students with the support they need. I have made it a habit to touch base with these students at the beginning and end of each class to check for understanding of not only the material but also of the expectations. (b) Delivers Effective Instruction. Each day my essential questions are written on the board before the start of class. I have created rubrics for nearly all of my assignments. 6 30 8 20

The assessments I have created challenge students to go beyond the first couple of levels of Blooms' and apply their knowledge. For instance I have a lesson plan on Photo Composition Techniques where students are required to take photographs demonstrating each technique and then post them to a website where they write a sentence about why the photo demonstrates the technique. (c) Manages Classroom Climate and Operation. In each of the courses I teach I have at least one lesson/unit that requires collaboration among students. The Organic Robot lesson has students work in pairs and take turns testing how successful their flowchart is at getting the robot outside of the room. We are in a brand new high school and the environment allows for lots of flexibilbilty. I also like to utliize the outside when possible. For Photo and Video we frequently shoot outside. I am known as the teacher who the students "don't want to disappoint". I feel I have built this reputation by being fair and respectful of my students and, in the return, I receive the same (for the most part). By posting the majority of my material online, I have eliminated the time it use to take to handout hardcopies of items such as rubrics, assignments and quizzes. (d) Promotes Equity. The topic of effort is a discussion I have with all my students on a regular basis. I often discuss how they don't want the older version of themselves to be angry with the younger version because they didn't make the most of their high school opportunities. I am avaiable every day after school and have been known to give a student a ride home if need and permission from a parent has been given. When possible, I discuss community involvement with my classes. I look for opportunities for them to participate outside of the classroom. For instance my Video Production course just finished making a video about Burn Awareness.

In order to support parents and students at home, I post all my resources online so there is never a forgotten book or a lost worksheet. I also open a dialogue with parents the moment I see any issue arising with a student, or if I see a student who is doing exceedingly well. (e) Meets Professional Responsibilities. I am completing my Master's degree in Curriculum and Instructional Technology and considering my doctorate. Follow a number of Burlington High School collegues to learn about new iPad and related technologies. I teach professional development related to technology for my school's PD day. Email is my preferred method of communication with parents; it is clear, there is time to react and than calm down and there is a paper trail. I wrote our districts AUP a number of years ago and work with the tech team to revisit it as needed. This year we had to modify it, along with our students handbooks, to reflect our new iPad intiative.

Instructional Standards
(a) The following topics will be addressed on a test of subject matter knowledge: 1. Technology tools for word processing, databases, spreadsheets, print/graphic utilities, multi- and hypermedias, presentations, videos for the purpose of formal and informal assessment, instruction, and administration for professional and instructional use.

I integrate a wide variety of technology tools into all aspects of my professional career. My Computer Applications course provides students with an in-depth look at MS-Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Publisher along with other online tools including Dropbox, Wordle, Weebly, Wikispaces and Prezi. I also teach professional development for my collegues; the topic varies each year. I also provide informal support to staff and students as needed.

In my previous role of Technology Director, I spent a lot of time learning about various assistive and adaptive devices and methods for students. The most recent student I had was legally blind.
