It would be interesting to find out why he was slipping in his other classes and not yours. What were you doing differently from the other teachers? Exp. Record #: 10910 Date submitted: 06/18/2012 Elizabeth Hogan approved on 06/19/2012 Cohort: UEN 2011

Field-Based Internship Reflection Form For Internship Experience Standard 1: Visionary Leadership; Standard 2: Instructional Leadership; Standard 3: Organizational Leadership; Standard 4: Collaborative Leadership; Standard 5: Ethical Leadership; Standard 6: Political Leadership Standard and Criteria Level Time Spent 10 hour(s) Note

4.a Engages families and community, and promotes shared responsibility for student learning Special and education Education Briefly describe this field-based internship experience, including your specific role (1/2 page).

My role in this experience was general education teacher in the development of an IEP for a student enrolled in a section of 8th grade social studies. The IEP team wanted my input along with data collection from my class in terms of academics and behavior. Basically this student was slipping in both area significantly quite abruptly. However he was still "above water" in my social studies section. My data and input was the opposite of all the other teachers. I still took the data and gave input as to giving the student accommodations that would help him out in school. I also attended the IEP meetings including the main meeting where parental consent was needed to implement the IEP. At the meeting I brought up some key points that I thought would help the student be successful in school and in life. I emphasized the "team" effort and necessity for all of the adults to stay united in helping the student out. Reflect on what you have learned from this experience, from mentor discussions, and how you will use this learning in future administrative leadership roles (no more than 1/2 page). The student ended up getting back on track and was successful in passing the 8th grade. The IEP I believe saved his academic career in this case. The parents, staff, teachers, and administration worked very well together to help this student out. It was a family feeling of being on the same team. I will work diligently in the future as an administrator to keep the "family" feeling alive when working with the students. Everyone is there working together as a team, they must remain on the same team otherwise it could potentially affect the student negatively. I will work on facilitating and initiating the "team" effort concept right away during situations like that. Mentor(s) Brad Schweppe The date approved by his/her lead mentor: 06/18/2012
